Again, there are literally hundreds of different ways to “tone your tushy” but most of those exercises stem from two basic exercises: lunges and squats. Both of these moves are amazing at tightening and lifting your buttocks and shaping the legs, but the squat mostly targets the butt and the lunge works the legs. Do these exercises regularly and before you know it, your jeans will fit better, and you’ll be able to show off your lean, toned legs in shorts in no time at all.
How to do a Squat
Stand with your feet hip width apart and your knees and toes in the same direction. Lower your body and imagine you are sitting in a chair and push your hips back as you lean slightly forward. Another great analogy is to pretend that you are using a public restroom and there are no seat covers! Ladies, you know what I mean – we have all done it! That is perfect squat form. Please remember, that while lowering your hips lower will increase the intensity of the exercise, never drop your hips lower than your knees. Start with about two or three sets of 10-15 repetitions, and if you want you can even add hand weights and rest them on your shoulders to increase the intensity.
Proper form for a Lunge
Lunges work your gluts, but primarily they work your legs. Start by stepping forward with either leg and bending your back knee while keeping your shoulders over your hips – the lower your go, the harder it is. Since there are so many great variations of a lunge, you may consider getting one or two workout videos that show you a few other ways to do this great leg and butt workout.
The hardest part of any exercise plan is simply starting. Technique is always the most important part of any workout and you should never sacrifice form for intensity. Consider starting with exercise videos that are appropriate for your fitness level so you can learn good form and to have someone giving you cues to help you reach your goals.
